Catherine Zeta Jones Wins Tony Jun 14th, 2010

Catherine Zeta-Jones won best actress in a musical for her role in A Little Night Music, while Douglas Hodge scooped best actor in a musical for his role in drag in La Cage Aux Folles. It was a night that two acclaimed London theatres also scored big: The Donmar Warehouse for its Broadway transfer of Red and the Menier Chocolate Factory for its transfer of La Cage.

Zeta-Jones, scooping her diaphonous dress up and comparing herself to Cinderella, looked shocked and elated as her name was read out. “Oh my lord,” she said hoarsely, reassuring the audience her voice would return in time for her next performance on Tuesday.

She thanked director Trevor Nunn and her co-star, the “delicious and wonderful Angela Lansbury – I could never have imagined having a co-star of her calibre”.

Zeta-Jones, who performed Send In The Clowns from the Stephen Sondheim musical during the awards show, thanked her parents “for making me the person I am – and I do forgive you” and then suddenly indicated her husband, the actor Michael Douglas: “That’s my man, he’s a movie star and I get to sleep with him every night!”

Catherine Honored by Queen of England Jun 13th, 2010

Hollywood star Catherine Zeta-Jones and Formula One racing driver David Coulthard were among those awarded royal honors Saturday.

Winter Olympics gold medallist Amy Williams and veteran musicians John Cale and Graham Nash were also named in the Queen’s birthday honors list.

In a possible nod to the football World Cup in South Africa — where England were due to play their first match against the United States on Saturday — the goalkeeper in England’s shock defeat by the US in 1950 was also honoured.

Oscar-winner Zeta-Jones was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).

The Welsh screen siren, who is married to Hollywood veteran Michael Douglas, was recognised for her services to the film industry and to charity.

CZJ – I am not aesthetically beautiful May 16th, 2010

The 40 year-old, who won an Oscar for Chicago, admits to having insecurities about her looks despite regularly being voted one of the world’s most beautiful women.

“I am not aesthetically beautiful,” she said in an interview to be published this weekend.

“I have a broken nose, I had a tracheotomy when I was a kid, I have broken capillaries and I’m always asking my husband ‘do I look fat in this dress? Can you see that spot on my face’.”

She admitted she was “crazy in love” with her older husband, Michael Douglas, also a Hollywood actor who has starred in “Wall Street” to “Traffic” and “The American President”.

His new film Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps premiered on Friday at Cannes.

In the interview, she insisted that neither of them cared that her husband was 65, because the “age difference is kind of fantastic”.

And despite the baggage that comes with Douglas – his son Cameron, being given a five year jail term for selling drugs, which his father called “adequate” – his wife said she was smitten with him.

“I am crazy in love with my husband. The biggest misconception of me is that I’m some diehard, ambitious, do anything-get-anything kind of person,” she said.

“But actually I’m very shy socially. I get perceived sometimes like ‘ta da!’ Here comes the showgirl’ but I’m a lot more reserved and quiet than I let on.”

She said that she prefers to spend her time off at the Bermuda home with Douglas and their children Dylan, nine and Carys, seven.

“I’m thrilled that Hollywood opened its arms and accepted me but I don’t know how people live there, especially with kids,” she told the Sunday Express magazine.

“People think we are this Hollywood couple but Michael never really live there either.

“He grew up on the east coast. We have great friends in LA but we come in, we work, we see people and then we go. I have been told it is not good for business but I’d sacrifice my career so my children can go to school with the paparazzi pestering them.”

She added: “All the things you used to worry about go on the back burner when you have children.

“It gives me such joy to be around them and to see them grow. When Dylan came along it just blew my mind that a complete little stranger would fill me with this overwhelming desire to nurture and protect him.

“I would like as many as I can pop out. Michael said to me he would have two and then we would have to negotiate on the third. Me? I would have as many children as I possibly could.”

Ms Zeta Jones began her career as a 12-year-old in a production of Annie at the Swansea Grand Theatre and appeared in the West End before moving into television and film.

Last month she said she wanted to play Susan Boyle in a film of her life.

While last December she was the hottest ticket in New York’s theatreland after making her much anticipated Broadway debut after nearly 20 years away from the stage in Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music.

Despite her success she was clear where her loyalties lay.

“I’m still a British citizen and I still have strong roots in my home country,” she said, adding she regularly returns to the £2 million home she bought for her parents on the South Wales coast.

But in an apparent change in career path she added: “I am going to be playing more mums than sex symbols.”

Catherine Zeta-Jones’ letter of support for stepson Apr 8th, 2010

Catherine Zeta-Jones has written to a New York judge asking him to spare her stepson Cameron Douglas a harsh prison sentence over his selling of drugs.

Thirty-one-year-old Cameron – son of Michael and his first wife – is facing a minimum of ten years behind bars for selling crystal meth.

“Never in my experience over the years has Cameron shown any signs of the disease that has tormented him, toward his siblings or has ever been abusive to us as a family at any time,” wrote the Welsh star.

“My stepson is a caring, considerate, worthy human being, but never the less, the disease, that for years he has tried to combat, did take over again.

“What is wrong, is wrong, but may all these positive attributes prevail, so that a facility that he is positioned in, will help rehabilitate him,” she added.

Cameron will be sentenced on April 27.
